LAHORE: The city district administration on Wednesday organised a Defense Day ceremony to pay tribute to the martyrs of 1965 war between India and Pakistan.

The ceremony was marked by the unfurling of the Hilal Istiqlal Flag, one minute of silence, and a heartfelt tribute to the nation’s martyrs.

The day began with a siren sounding across the city, a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave men and women in defense of Pakistan. As the nation observed one minute’s silence, it served as a moment of reflection and remembrance for those who laid down their lives for the country.

The ceremony featured stirring performances by the police band and school bands, who presented a beautiful salute to honor the occasion. Scouts and Civil Defense personnel raised powerful slogans of “Allahu Akbar” alongside the parade, embodying the spirit of unity and patriotism.

Station Commander of Pakistan Army Brigadier Nadeem Khan, and Station Commander of Navy Commodore Sajid Hussain, participated in the main ceremony.

The commissioner had the honour of formally hoisting the flag on this significant occasion.

The ceremony featured scouts and school children wearing military uniforms, symbolising the spirit of sacrifice and service. Army and navy officers also participated, underscoring the collective commitment to defend the nation.

Mr Randhawa spoke about the spirit of bravery, hard work, and loyalty that permeates the soil of Pakistan. He extended heartfelt greetings to the mothers and parents who gave birth to the children who sacrificed their lives for the country. He said Pakistan’s development relies on the foundation of honesty and hard work.

During the ceremony, the commissioner met the families of the martyrs, who were specially invited to the event. Everyone in attendance paid heartfelt tribute to their dear martyrs, acknowledging the immense sacrifices made in the service of the nation.

APFTU: The working class also paid a tribute to the martyrs of 1965 war.

At a function held under the aegis of the All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions, a large number of workers and office bearers of the federation offered prayers at Batapur and Barki for Maj Aziz Bhatti Shaheed and his colleagues who sacrificed their lives for the defence of Pakistan.
